For us ordinary people, it is quite difficult to understand Phassa. This is because we mistakenly think of Phassa simply as the eye contacting a visible form or the ear contacting a sound, just as simple contact. When the Consciousness of knowing arises, the element of Phassa, which presses and crushes the taste of the object, arises together with the knowing.<\/strong> Due to the power of Phassa, Feeling (Vedana) which feels the taste of the object arises.<\/strong><\/p>\n For example, the sugarcane is like the Object, and the sugarcane juice is like Consciousness.<\/strong> The crushing machine that crushes the cane to extract juice is like Phassa.<\/strong> The sugarcane juice (result) is like the taste of the object, and the act of consuming\/enjoying it is like Feeling.<\/strong> One must contemplate to distinguish them in this way.<\/p>\n The Five Aggregates and Mind-Matter that arise in seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching, and thinking are the Round of Results (Vipaka Vatta).<\/strong> Mistakenly knowing them as Person or Being is Ignorance (Avijja)<\/strong>; liking them is Craving (Tanha)<\/strong>; clinging to them is Clinging (Upadana).<\/strong> Ignorance, Craving, and Clinging are the Round of Defilements (Kilesa Vatta).<\/strong> Due to Clinging, exerting effort through Physical, Verbal, and Mental Actions (Formations) and creating Wholesome and Unwholesome Karma is the Round of Karma (Kamma Vatta).<\/strong><\/p>\n Because Defilements of Ignorance, Craving, and Clinging enter upon the Round of Results (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching, thinking), the Round of Karma arises, and Samsara continues to revolve. If the Round of Defilements ceases, the Round of Karma ceases, and Samsara stops.
