Only when the Earth Element is organized with the Water Element can a form emerge. Mud becomes mud only when earth is mixed with water, and from that mud, a form emerges. Because Karma conditions the forms of beings, some are beautiful, and some are not.<\/p>\n<h2>Ultimate Reality Means True Nature<\/h2>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Ultimate Reality (Paramattha) refers to the natural phenomena that truly exist. These natural phenomena exist on their own, regardless of human agreement. The Four Great Elements\u2014Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind\u2014are Ultimate Matter (Rupa). Feeling, Perception, Mental Formations, and Consciousness are Ultimate Mind (Nama).<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">You cannot see Ultimate Reality directly. Ultimate Reality is known only through characteristics. For example, the Earth Element is known by the characteristic of \"Hardness.\" The Water Element is known by the characteristics of \"Wetness or Cohesion.\" The Fire Element is known by the characteristics of \"Heat or Cold.\" The Wind Element is known by the characteristics of \"Support or Motion.\"<\/p>\n<h2>Knowing Concepts vs. Knowing Ultimate Reality<\/h2>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">I want to explain to you the distinction between Conceptual Knowledge and Ultimate Knowledge. When feeling an object, we know it is hard. Knowing the object as a whole combined with the hardness is Conceptual Knowledge or Perception (Sa\u00f1\u00f1a). Isolating and knowing only the hardness of that object is Ultimate Knowledge or Wisdom (\u00d1ana).<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Knowing by isolating means the Body Consciousness (Kaya Vinyana) picks up only the ultimate element of earth (hardness). The subsequent Mind Consciousness interprets that hardness known by the body consciousness as the solidity or substance of the object (concept). If the hand is one, the table is two. When the hand touches the table, a sensation of hardness will appear. That hardness is three (the Third Thing).
